I'm a doctor who decided to become a marriage and family therapist. I knew that someday I would retire from anesthesiology, but I could not see myself retiring from helping people. Becoming a therapist has been an ideal way to continue to have a meaningful impact on people’s lives.
I completed my post-graduate training at the Family Therapy Training Institute in Milwaukee, and while studying there developed a special interest in working with distressed couples. I pursued additional training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, a research-based approach to helping couples improve their communication and restore their intimacy.
Before becoming a therapist, I attended Medical School at Northwestern University, followed by a residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Washington. My experience in the operating room has helped me to develop a calm, steady presence in therapy, where my clients have described me both as empathetic and focused.
